Our Cosmetic Dental Treatments

richfield cosmetic dentistryDo you wish your teeth could be brighter, or that you could correct unsightly gaps between teeth or misshapen ones? With cosmetic dentistry, your Richfield, MN, dentist can offer a smile transformation in only one visit! In today’s blog, we’re looking at dental bonding and cosmetic contouring.

Dental Bonding

The dental bonding process actually uses the same lifelike material we employ as part of our metal-free dental fillings. Composite resin is a blend of glass-like and acrylic particles, which are safe for all ages and never change shape due to time to changes in temperature. We clean the tooth and etch the surface before applying the material in several layers. We then sculpt and shape this material as it cures under a special light. The last step is polishing the tooth.

The procedure could be used to mask permanent teeth stains, reshape malformed teeth, and even close embarrassing gaps between them too. We could lengthen the structure worn down by teeth grinding, and use them to repair cracked or chipped teeth too. All in one only one sitting!

Cosmetic Contouring

What about cosmetic contouring? This could be done in the same visit as bonding, or in a separate one. Again, this only takes one sitting to completely. Instead of adding material to a tooth, we gently sand and buff the outer structure. Once we do, we can treat minor chips, reshape overly large or malformed teeth, and dull sharp, jagged, or pointed portions of a tooth. Our team could also smooth out pits, grooves, and rough patches in the outer surfaces. With bonding and contouring, we can essentially offer a smile makeover in only one sitting, so you leave our office with a transformed smile!

Protecting Your Smile’s Beauty

You can take measures to help protect your smile’s newfound beauty. To avoid chips and cracks, be sure you wear a mouthguard when you play sports or martial arts. To avoid stains and also fight issues like tooth decay and periodontal issues, we suggest brushing twice daily with a fluoride toothpaste and flossing every evening too. You also benefit from a diet low in sugar and starch, and avoiding drinks with dark pigments, like coffee, tea, red wine, and soda. Finally, be sure you schedule a checkup and cleaning every six months too, so we can monitor your smile and remove harmful plaque and tartar buildup.
