Losing several of your natural teeth could mean your smile’s health and beauty suffers. However, to restore function and appearance to smiles with tooth loss, we may suggest a denture. In addition to complete dentures, we also offer our Richfield, MN, patients a partial prosthetic.
Addressing Minor Cases of Tooth Loss
If you lose between one and three teeth in a row, then we may place a dental bridge to fill the gaps in your smile. But what if you lose more, and what if they’re spread out across your arch? For these situations, we provide a partial denture. The prosthetic contains an acrylic base that looks like natural gum tissue. Set within this base are teeth created from lifelike materials, such as ceramic. They will blend with your smile and absorb serious bite forces. Metal clasps on your partials will attach to natural teeth and secure your new ones firmly in place. To design them, we take detailed impressions of your smile. We use the images, impressions, and measurements we gather to design the prosthetic, ensuring a comfortable fit that provides sturdy, dependable tooth replacement.
When to Consider a Full
If you’ve lost a majority of your teeth, or all of them, then a partial isn’t enough to restore your smile to full function and beauty. Instead, you will need a full prosthetic. Again, we create the denture based on detailed impressions and measurements taken of your smile. We create them with lifelike materials, including an acrylic base and a full set of lifelike teeth. Suction keeps them in place and helps ensure a reliable set of replacement teeth.
Protecting Your Smile from Further Tooth Loss
If you have a partial, routine care is still essential to prevent the loss of additional teeth. Likewise, if you haven’t lost any natural teeth, the right care and maintenance can help you keep your teeth. We suggest brushing teeth twice a day for two minutes, and flossing every night before going to sleep. Visits every six months for checkups and cleanings allow us to watch your smile for signs of trouble, and then remove all plaque to help protect the teeth and gums from cavities and gum disease. We will also provide detailed instructions for the care and cleaning of your denture.
